In this ever-changing economy, students are now faced with more options than ever before and this can, initially, be quite daunting. The Careers and Appointment Service is fully aware of the challenges facing students today and our primary aim is to provide the career guidance you require, in a relaxed and friendly environment.

In order to achieve this aim, we provide a range of services for students of the college. We hope that we can be of benefit to students in their transition to the world of work and further training.

We firmly believe that your career starts from the day you enter college, which is why we encourage you to make contact with us early. After all, the more we know about you, the easier it will be for us to provide you with the support you require when making the choices that shape your future.

2. Opening Hours

Students can make appointments to meet with the careers advisor in Portobello College, by ringing 01 4177530, for an appointment at the following times:

• Monday 3.00pm - 5.30pm
• Friday 3.00pm - 5.30pm

You are welcome to call into the Careers Office in Dublin Business School at any stage with shorter queries. Please go to the Aungier Street Reception desk and ask for Carol Clifford.

Notice of cancellation of an appointment must be given 24 hours in advance. If 24 hours notice is, for any reason not possible, we would appreciate cancellation at the earliest convenience.

Students who fail to cancel appointments cannot be guaranteed another one. Students who are delayed in attending an appointment, are requested to inform the office on 01-4177530.

4. Services to Employers

Listed below, are the services we provide for you, the employer:

• Graduate Recruitment: Employers have the opportunity to recruit graduates from our many Business and Arts programmes. The Careers Office is happy to advertise graduate vacancies on our Careers Notice Boards and in our Careers Newsletter.
• DBS Placement Programmes: Portobello college and Dublin Business School run a variety of Placement Programmes, which provide employers with the opportunity to recruit high quality students on fixed-term contract positions. These placement programmes range from our One-Year Business Studies Degree Placement, to our shorter-term Undergraduate and Postgraduate placements. These placement programmes have proved to be a very successful and cost-effective means of filling these contract positions for employers.
• Part-time and Vacation Employment: The Careers Office is also happy to advertise part-time and vacation positions on our Careers Notice Boards and Careers Newsletter.
• Interview Facilities: Interview facilities are available on the college premises.
• Company Presentations: The Careers Office is delighted to welcome employers into the college to give presentations to students. We will provide rooms for presentations, as well as laptop and projection equipment.
