International Office
We recognise that students making the transition to the Irish education system need support and advice on many day-to-day issues.
The International office at Portobello College gives significant support to International students during their studies.
The International Office offers assistance to students in the following areas:
Applications for Admissions – assessment of academic qualifications and issue of Offer & Acceptance Letters.
Study Visa - providing advice and college letters needed to apply for a visa and to renew a visa once the student is in Ireland.
Invitation Letters – for parents or relatives who wish to visit students in Ireland
Academic Support – we monitor students’ progress in liaison with lecturers. Students are give advice and support in relation to assays, assignments and exam preparation.
Career Guidance – advice on career choice, further studies and finding work experience is given to students.
Academic Progress Reports – we provide parents and guardians with information on how the student is performing and behaving. Parents are also advised when the International Office is visiting their country, should they wish to arrange a meeting to discuss any aspects of their children’s education.
Monitoring of Attendance- attendance records are rigorously kept and monitored.
Accommodation – accommodation can be arranged with carefully chosen host families.
Pre-University – The Institute of Education prepares students for the Irish pre-university examination; the Irish Leaving Certificate students sit this exam in the final year of high school, the exam allows entry to Irish and UK universities.
