What are the Entry requirements?


Age
Students applying for Portobello College must be over 17 years of age on commencement of a programme at the college

Academic Requirements
Applicants to Portobello College are assessed on an individual case by case basis. For those applying from outside Ireland, please allow sufficient time for visa processing (check with the Irish Embassy in your home country for the latest visa processing times)


What are the English requirements?
International students face two important problems when they attend pre-university or university-level programmes in Ireland:


1. Language difficulties
2. Adapting to cultural differences in the educational system


Students will be assessed by the Portobello College language department to ensure that their English language level is at a standard suitable for entry. Students who have difficulties with their English language level can avail of the services of our language department.

Is there an application fee?
No, there is no charge to apply.


Do I need a study visa to come to Ireland?
In general, students from non-European Economic Area countries will need a Study Visa to enter Ireland and should apply to the Irish Embassy or Consulate in their own country. For more information on Visa requirements click here.


What accommodation is available?
Accommodation is arranged with a host family for the first four weeks. The students will be notified of the arrangements prior to departure for Ireland. Accommodation costs are paid in advance along with tuition fees.


Will my qualification from Portobello College be recognised internationally?
Portobello College :Internationally Recognised and Accredited. The Higher Education and Training Awards Council(HETAC). Portobello College became a "designated" institution of HETAC in 1991. HETAC is the Irish government organisation that validates university level qualifications for colleges outside the national universities in Ireland.


HETAC qualifications, as the national qualification of a constituent EU member state, are recognised internationally. Holders of HETAC qualifications can access a wide range of postgraduate and professional programmes both in Ireland and internationally.

Do I need Private Medical Insurance?
Medical Insurance is arranged by the College for those travelling to Ireland for the first time. Cover will begin from arrival date in Ireland. It is the student's responsibility to renew medical insurance cover for each subsequent year of their studies in Ireland. Medical Insurance is a requirement for the Irish Study Visa, and must also be paid in advance
